UPDATE: Katy Perry vs. Kesha vs. Miley Cyrus vs. Justice

This is an update to Katy Perry vs. Kesha

I think we need to create a new genre of music called “lazy-girl-rap-dance”.

Jonathan and Kelly pointed out this Justice track a few months back and not that this Miley Cyrus track was brought to my attention I give you the following:

Justice – “The Party”  (2009)

With the beat:

Justice – “The Party”  (2009)

Ke$ha – “Tik Tok”  (2009)
Miley Cyrus – “Permanent December”  (2010)
Ke$ha – “Tik Tok”  (2009)
Katy Perry- “California Gurls” (2010)

You can hear these songs in the same key and tempo playing at the same time here… It’s all lined up. I made this on my Protools rig in my recording studio. http://www.myspace.com/redboothrecording

    BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

There’s already that article that compares Tik Tok to Kylie Minogue’s Love at First Sight.

But you know that probably samples Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You. There’s also another song by shemusic called Circuit Lover which seems to sample Kylie Minogue and/or Stardust’s songs.

Music Sounds Better With You predates Ke$ha, Katy Perry, and Kylie Minogue. However, even Stardust sampled off Chaka Khan’s “Fate.”

Just a couple of bars in this song linked above turned out to be the genesis for multiple songs by multiple artists. That just shows how much talent Ke$ha, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus have to me.

Ha. Thanks for the additions Mr Valenti. Great list of similar tracks. I also wasn’t aware of the Chaka Khan sample.

Btw, I’m pretty sure Justice – The Party came out way before 2009.

I’m not sure how much older it is, but this video was uploaded in 2007:

Thanks for the info. I don’t have the actual record. It looks like maybe it was recorded in 2007 and released as a single two years later.

No, The Party was on their debut album from 2007. Look here:

Ned, Thanks for the info. Yeah, I think the various spellings of the track threw me off a little.

Also, as Rodd mentioned in another one of your posts:

    Do you hear it?

I don’t think Justice is ripping off anyone, but so far I’m counting

    1. Ke$ha – Tik Tok

    2. Miley Cyrus – Permanent December

    3. Katy Perry – California Gurls

    4. she – Circuit Lover

    5. Stardust – Music Sounds Better with You

    6. Kylie Minogue – Love at First Sight

    7. Jessica Simpson – Public Affair

Seven songs that may have never came into existence without Chaka Khan’s Fate. Of course, it is possible that one of these artists may have produced something similar sounding purely out of their own creativity, but from what I can tell there are probably more rip-offs to come in the years ahead.

this is EXACTLY why I hate today’s music.

  7. John Balash says:

Wait, add Flo Rida’s Who Dat Girl to this thread. It’s a blatant sample of California Gurls.

    But wait, it gets worse! Ha ha. This song is resurfacing again in Chris Brown’s Yeah 3X. Tell me if I’m being crazy or if the backgrounds here sound familiar;
