Is that Coldplay “Clocks” coming on the stereo? No, wait! Who’s that girl singing? Is this a remix? No, wait! It’s David Guetta’s ”When Love Takes Over” (Feat. Kelly Rowland).

Lady Gaga just keeps putting out the hits. Somebody on her team must be doing their mega hit research. One of Gaga’s latest singles “Alejandro” (2010) bears a striking resmblance to the 90’s Ace of Base hit “Don’t Turn Around”. I just discovered via Wikipedia that Tina Turner recorded the first version of “Don’t Turn Around” in 1986. Most of us are probably familiar with the 1994 Ace of Base version as heard below.

I can just imagine Pinback writing this song and calling it their “Police” song. Have a listen to their 2007 track “Blue Harvest” along side The Police classic “Message In A Bottle”. It’s not an exact match or anything but they definitely sounds alike!

I think just about every Blink 182 or Angels & Airwaves song sounds similar to a Screeching Weasel song. The following is an excellent example. Pretty spot on!
Adam points out the similarity of the main riff in Stereophonic’s 1998 “Pick a Part That’s New” and the interlude speed up riff in Dinosaur Jr.’s 1994 “Feel the Pain”. Check it out!

Check out the intro to Nightwish’s 2008 metal track “Bye Bye Beautiful”. Sounds a bit like Paul McCartney’s 1973 Bond theme song “Live and Let Die”. (Here’s some interesting info about “Live and Let Die” on Wikipedia if you’re interested).
Here’s a nice obscure one from Adam who points out the Skip Spence similarity. I discovered the Shadows similarity from the Blister in the Sun Wikipedia page.
Before The Violent Femmes hit the mainstream in 1983 with “Blister in the Sun” The Shadows put out ”Little B” in 1962 and six years later Skip Spence was inside Bellevue writing his lo-fi masterpiece Oar. Enjoy!
