The Hives just came out with a new single called “Go Right Ahead”. Go right ahead and check it out next to ELO‘s classic “Don’t Bring Me Down”.

Thanks for the tip from Travis. According to the wikipedia page for “Go Right Ahead”  The Hives contacted ELO for  permission to use the “Don’t Bring Me Down” melody.

Small sections of the song bears similarity to British group Electric Light Orchestra’s (ELO) “Don’t Bring Me Down”. However, it should be noted that The Hives contacted and received permission from ELO’s songwriter, Jeff Lynne, to use the similar riff.  – wikipedia

I can only imagine that Coheed and Cambria is paying homage to Led Zeppelin in their 2005 track “Welcome Home”.  Sanchez rocks the double neck Gibson EDS-1275 (made famous by Jimmy Page) in their official video here. Check it out:

Check out American Idol contestant Elliott Yamin‘s “Wait For You” (2007) and commercial pop group S Club‘s “Never Had a Dream Come True”. It’s a battle of the TV stars. I get the feeling there are a few other pop songs out there with this similar melody.
