Check out the intro to Nightwish’s 2008 metal track “Bye Bye Beautiful”. Sounds a bit like Paul McCartney’s 1973 Bond theme song “Live and Let Die”. (Here’s some interesting info about “Live and Let Die” on Wikipedia if you’re interested).

Here’s a nice obscure one from Adam who points out the Skip Spence similarity. I discovered the Shadows similarity from the Blister in the Sun Wikipedia page.
Before The Violent Femmes hit the mainstream in 1983 with “Blister in the Sun” The Shadows put out ”Little B” in 1962 and six years later Skip Spence was inside Bellevue writing his lo-fi masterpiece Oar. Enjoy!

Great find by Caroline.
You’ve probably heard Kesha’s (aka Ke$ha) “Tik Tok” at least once a day for the past six months in a shopping mall, on the radio, at the gym or on your iPod. You might have thought to yourself, “Hm. This sounds like a song from like seven or eight years ago” and you’re right! Check out Kylie Minogue’s 2002 track “Love At First Sight”.

This is an odd one, but it’s been bugging me for years. Since 1994 NFL on Fox has used the same theme song produced by Scott Schreer (NJJ Music). Every time I hear it I want to sing “giddy up, giddy up let’s go” from the classic winter orchestral piece “Sleigh Ride” (Originally composed in 1948 by Leroy Anderson). Perhaps Schreer purposely incorporated this melody just for this reason. Below is a version of ”Sleigh Ride” by Bing Crosby.

This one is for all of you lovers out there. Koen submitted this and pointed out the similarity of the bridge in Coldplay’s 2005 “Talk” and Killing Joke’s 1985 “Love Like Blood”. Enjoy!

This is a great find by Michael. The jam out riff in Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers‘ 1993 track “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” features a guitar riff very similar to the “chorus chanting” in The White Stripes‘ 2002 “Fell In Love With A Girl”. Check it out!

Diana Ross’ 1975 “Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)” became a hit soon after its release in the film Mahogany of the same year. Check out “Here, There and Everywhere” from The Beatles‘ 1966 album Revolver.
