This is an update to this post

Any more of these out there??
Jim points out the hook in Survivor‘s 1984 hit “I Can’t Hold Back”. I included the beginning of the guitar solo at the end of the sample because it also incorporates the melody. Here’s all of them again!
Survivor - "I Can't Hold Back" (1984)
Cat Stevens - "Foreigner Suite" (1973)
Joe Satriani - "If I Could Fly" (2004)
Coldplay - "Viva la Vida" (2008)
Creaky Boards - "The Songs I Didn't Write" (2008)

lets add weezers the good life too please and i believe that came before both
You can also add Alizée’s “I’m fed up / j’en ai marre” to the list
Great find Sanglyon!
I posted about this recently elsewhere, but the Coldplay song seems to me like a pretty direct rip of The Tear Garden’s “Romulus and Venus”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ8IUl8lVms
Great find J!
And add “Frances Limon” by Los Enanitos Verdes, they actually came out before Satriania’s song…
Great find! Ill be sure to add ANOTHER update!
I cant believe Joe Satriani lost the law suit ! its exactly the same melody !
The survivor sample u have sounds like britney spears hold it against me chorus.
Excellent! AND it also sounds like Cutting Crew – “(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight”
The survivor sample also sounds like rihanna unfaithful chorus.
Another great one. I’ll be sure to post as an update.
Cat Stevens should get money from everybody !!
I first time I heard Lady Antebellum’s ‘Need You Now’ it totally reminded me of The Alan Parsons’ Project and ‘Eyes in the Sky’.
Great! I will definitely add this.
Here it is!

Keith, love the site and thanks for posting. I’ll send some musically inclined friends by to see if we can come up with some others. Glad to see you have Matthew and Son and Mad World listed. As much as I love Cat Stevens, Tear for Fears took the best part of the song and made something great.
Thanks!
I think those who point the finger at these guys are so damn stupid…do you have any idea about how much you have to work as an artist?..just shut the f*** up f***!you are just couch potatoes that only drive your car to the nearest fastfood and criticise people that really work!!!
How about Britney Spears’s “Hold It Against Me” – its chorus sounds totally similar to the melody in these songs, particularly the first two.
Thanks Benjy! A few other users pointed this similarity out as well. I’ve been meaning to post that. It also reminds me of Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight”):
. Of course this is all no surprise considering the Spears track is yet another Dr. Luke creation. Look for my upcoming Dr. Luke post.
how about this
Wow. I am actually working on another update to this post. I have two other other songs to add to this.. and now THIS!!
dont agree with this one??
Another one?!! The backing track is pretty close! Hey Travis, I just made a new updated to this post containing your other suggestion. I’m calling it “CatrianiPlay”

From this very site!
Heya! When I heard Dido’s “Thank You” in your post on buzzfeed (about the ‘Most used melody in music’), I instantly thought of Orishas’s ‘El Kilo’ (2004) .. check it out if you have time. 🙂
Also.. did you got my e-mail?
Thanks.
Great find! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uEttBMAwEs
