This is an odd one, but it’s been bugging me for years. Since 1994 NFL on Fox has used the same theme song produced by Scott Schreer (NJJ Music). Every time I hear it I want to sing “giddy up, giddy up let’s go” from the classic winter orchestral piece “Sleigh Ride” (Originally composed in 1948 by Leroy Anderson). Perhaps Schreer purposely incorporated this melody just for this reason. Below is a version of “Sleigh Ride” by Bing Crosby.

This is a hilariously unexpected surprise. I always thought the same thing about the Fox theme. Glad I’m not the only one. A manly, menacing version of “Sleigh Ride.” “Giddyup giddyup giddyup, let’s kill, let’s step up, give 110%, and leave it all on the field.”
Even with this post I still having trouble convincing my friends. At least I know I’m not crazy now. Or… we just both are!

Actually, as I recall, when Fox got NFL from CBS, they brought that very theme which was first on CBS.
i have a good ear and yet don’t hear the least bit of sleigh ride in the NFL on fox theme.two different melodies / compositions completely.

update–okay,i gave it a couple listens,but it’s only couple bars at the most.but i do hear the similarity.
Thanks Dennis. Some of the music on the site isn’t necessarily a super close match but sometimes things just sound close enough to make that bulb go on.
I’ve been watching more NFL during the Christmas season, enjoying the “Giddy-Up, Giddy-up” words in my head to the dramatic FOX tune. I’m apparently one of several thought-they-were-the-only-ones.

I was just listening to a podcast that was playing the Fox song. As I walked into another room, I found myself humming it. Suddenly, I realized I was actually humming Sleigh Ride! Great call!
If you’re an old timer like me you might remember when they played the music to sleigh ride in December during commercial breaks and how it morphed into its’ current form, just a jazzed up version.
Swore buddy was humming Sleigh Ride just now. I was like “Xmas music already?” “What? No, it’s the NFL music” It’s definitely the “Giddy up, giddy up…” part that links them. lol crazy
100% exactly the same melody. Giddy up giddy up giddy up let’s go is all I hear every time the NFL comes on TV. How did they get away with this???
