Lady Gaga vs. Madonna

lady-gaga-madonna

Thanks to Augie for sending me this.

Adding to the Lady Gaga on ThatSongSoundsLike we have a new single called “Born This Way” that suffers from a strong resemblance to Madonna‘s 1989 hit “Express Yourself”. It sounds like Gaga used the old “use the chorus as the verse trick”. Have a listen to these edits.
Enjoy!

Lady Gaga “Born This Way” verse and  Madonna “Express Yourself” chorus

Lady Gaga - "Born This Way" (2011)

Madonna - "Express Yourself" (1989)

Verse and Choruse of both

Madonna - "Express Yourself" (1989)

I also included Madonna’s “Vogue” (1990) since there is a similar “talking” style in this Gaga track as well.

I totally agree with “you and I” sounding like what’s up by 4 non blondes. I also think it sounds similar to a hit from 2005 called “breathe (2 am)” by Anna nalick. And for “born this way” it def sounds similar to “walk away”

You’re right, Candace. 2 AM (Breathe) bears a striking resemblance to the chord progressions in “You And I,” though the meter and phrasing is different. Check out Joe Cocker’s cover of the Beatles tune, “With A Little Help From My Friends” and you’ll hear another striking resemblance.

      Thanks Travis!

Hm, maybe the first 4 notes of the Sin Miedo chorus are similar, but not so much the rest.

Listen to Ma Baker by Boney M and there’s a clear yanking on Gaga’s behalf.

We need to keep count of the many songs sampled by Gaga.

is it a well-known fact that madonna’s “express yourself” is a rip-off of the staple singers’ “respect yourself”?? how come i never see this mentioned anywhere??
