Katy Perry vs. Erasure

This was sent in by aaliya and Robert

Have a listen to Katy Perry‘s “Firework” next to Erasure‘s “Always”.

@Marcos Really? I noticed straight away. The fireworks song is a sped up version. Probably a coincidence of course but one says ‘Light’ and the other says ‘Night. So even the rhymes similar.

I don’t see the similarity, it’s called a sequence. Neither are really melodies, just a basic musical sequence.

Doubt it’s coincidence. Robot Unicorn Attack is one of the most popular things on the net.

A melody from Erasure “Always” got nicked for the pre-chorus of “Firework”–the line with “there will be no shame”.

Not knocking her BTW. Whoever wrote “Firework” smartly appropriated a popular cult earworm and married it to a big pop star hook.

There’s a part of John Legend – All Of Me which sounds like Firework and another part which sounds like Aerosmith – I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing

It’s been said that Maroon 5’s current smash “Sugar” sounds like Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night (and also Birthday). No prizes for guessing who the songwriter was.
