This sure puts a new spin on the rap feuds of yesteryear. Today we are talking about Macklemore and Le1f. Le1f is a bit bent out of shape for a number of reasons and you can read all about that on this buzzfeed post. Did you engage in the conversation on buzzfeed and get upset about somebody else’s comment and start your own feud? Good, that’s what they want. If you got too distracted by Le1f’s deleted tweets and missed the actual music part, here it is:
So if you’re wondering what all of the fuss is about Le1f is upset that Macklemore’s “Same Love” (2012) won a VMA (“Video Music Award”(that’s a show on MTV (that’s “Music Television” (they used to play music videos (“TV” is this box you probably used to have in your living room that tuned in channels that would show commercials and your favorite TV shows like “That’s Incredible” and “The Jeffersons” ))))). Macklemore is a straight, white guy. Le1f is a gay, black guy. So in addition to there being issue with “Same Love” (a pro gay rights track), “Thrift Shop” has some clear similarities to “Wut”. Did I get that right?
And for your enjoyment, all videos are worth watching. At time of posting “Thrift Shop” has over 409 MILLION plays!
heres a weird one again
coincidence? i doubt it
Interesting. Wikipedia says “There has been some talk of the single’s similarity to the Fuel’s song, “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)”, which Chris Daughtry performed on American Idol.[citation needed]”. Doh!
verses is literally the EXACT same chords
not only the same chords..its the EXACT same progression…yeah..
heres 1 from taylor swift that was mentioned…probably why she never released this one as a single
taylor swift: id lie
saving jane: girl next door
while im here…try this one out
soul asylum: runaway train
taylor swift: love story
2 of these 3 are compared all the time but ive yet to see the middle one compared
alice cooper: eighteen
cher: half breed
kiss: dreaming
H.I.M: wings of a butterfly
Clouseau: en dans
The chorus of the Le1f song kind of reminds me of Nicole Scherzinger – Whatever You Like (Intro)
Macklemore – White Walls vs. You’ll Be Mine – Havana Brown
Afrojack – Take Over Control
Owl City – When Can I See You Again?
Carly Rae Jepsen – Tonight I’m Getting Over You
Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball
Armin Van Buuren – This Is What It Feels Like
U2 – Ordinary Love
The piano in the U2 song chorus is nearly identical to Wrecking Ball
Britney Spears – Perfume too
While we’re at it, I’d like to add to this post:
“Problem” by Ariana Grande.
It’s not often when a pop song rips off a pop song from the previous year, and the #1 song at that.
I think you’ll find it’s more common than you might think.
Is it? I mean, “Thrift Shop” was the #1 hit of last year, and these guys are just blatant. It’s one thing if it was a lesser pop song, but the #1 highest hit?
Also, it should be mentioned that I’m not the only one who noticed this! The Key of Awesome also mentioned the similarity in their “Problem” parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-koXQqD0p5s
Alrighty, you guys asked for it! https://www.thatsongsoundslike.com/2014/09/09/battle-of-the-saxes-ariana-grande-vs-jason-derulo-vs-macklemore-vs-wild-sugar/
