Ed Sheeran vs. Yacht vs. The Rolling Stones

This latest submission by Kirb takes us back to one of the first posts on ThatSongSoundsLike (The Rolling Stones vs. Yacht)   in 2007. My friend Alex played Yacht‘s “See a Penny (Pick it Up)” and I also immediately heard “Miss You” by the Stones. Fast forward to 2014 and we have Ed Sheeran and his track “Sing” (co-written and produced by Pharrell Williams). Check out the chorus of “Sing” along with these others tracks:

Ed Sheeran - "Sing" (2014)
Yacht - "See a Penny (Pick it Up)" (2007)
The Rolling Stones - "Miss You" (1978)

Huh, didn’t notice this one before! Though the part after the chorus on “Sing” also reminds me of the “Whoa-oh-oh-WHAoh-oh” part (not very descriptive, I know) on “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer.

    Part in the video: 1:56-2:11

Also, it should be noted that this is the 3rd time Pharrell Williams has been featured on this site.

1st was “Blurred Lines” vs. Marvin Gaye (Pharrell produced, co-wrote, and sang “Woo!” on Robin Thicke’s track).

2nd was “Happy” vs. the Diet Coke commercial.

Since Pharrell is quickly becoming famed as a producer, songwriter, and singer, I think I’ll keep count of how many times he appears here. My guess is, he could become the next most popular producer here behind Dr. Luke!

The Diet Coke commercial came after his song, so I don’t think you can count that one, but admittedly, there is a post in which Dr Luke has inspired someone else. Anyway, personally, I think it’s too soon to judge.

apparently carrie underwoods cowboy casanova stirred a bit of controversy.

some say it was taken from this.

I think the new one probably sounds a little like a lot of different songs. For example, the chorus sounds kind of like Sunday Morning by Maroon 5 (2002).

I actually thought the chorus (especially the acoustic guitar) reminds me of “Like I Love You” by Justin Timberlake. It’s probably nothing, though.

Now you’ve mentioned the acoustic guitar part, I might as well add Long Train Runnin’ (Without Love) by The Doobie Brothers (1973).
