Muse’s ‘Uprising’ Sounds Like the Doctor Who Theme – Plus 7 More Muse Soundalikes

If you’re reading this in 2026 you might have heard that the company known as Meta claimed the handle @muse to use for their new Ai-driven Ai chatbot Ai agent assistant AI thing. So the band Muse is now using @museband. (here’s an article about that). I figured I would pull together all Muse posts from the site into one compilation. Enjoy!

Muse’s “Uprising” (2009) vs. Doctor Who Theme (1963/2007)

Muse put out a track in 2009 that contains a hook very much like the theme to the BBC show Doctor Who. Here’s the original 1963 theme, followed by the 2007 version recorded by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, then Muse’s “Uprising.”

Muse – “Bliss” (2001) vs. Top Gear (Super NES, 1992)

First Doctor Who and now Super Nintendo game music? Have a listen to the music from Super Nintendo’s 1992 high-speed racing game “Top Gear” and the ethereal synth line in Muse’s 2001 track “Bliss.”

The Offspring – “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” (2008) vs. Muse – “Time Is Running Out” (2003)

It’s one of those ones that isn’t exactly the same, but given The Offspring’s history on this site, it’s well worth the listen.

Muse – “Starlight” (2006) vs. Maroon 5 – “Never Gonna Leave This Bed” (2011)

Have a listen to Muse “Starlight” and Maroon 5 “Never Gonna Leave This Bed.”

Muse – “Resistance” (2009) vs. Erasure – “A Little Respect” (1998) vs. Jason Mraz – “I’m Yours” (2008)

Towards the end of Muse’s epic 2009 “Resistance” anthem is a climactic vocal melody that sounds a lot like Erasure’s “A Little Respect.” Jason Mraz’s 2010 track “I’m Yours” features that same melody too – have a listen to all three.

Muse – “Uprising” (2009) vs. The Offspring – “Coming for You” (2015)

The Offspring does it again – “Coming for You” sounds a lot like Muse when you check out the overall beat and bass line. Then there’s the distinct little lick that closes out the choruses in both songs.

The Doors – “Roadhouse Blues” (1970) vs. Muse – “Psycho” (2015)

Muse’s single “Psycho” has a main guitar riff that sounds a lot like “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors – though you can probably trace the origins of this bluesy riff back a few more decades.

I happen to think that Train-You Already Know sounds like Jason Mraz-I’m Yours. For some reason, Resistance reminds me of Herman’s Hermits-Sentimental Friend.
