Bon Jovi “You Give Love a Bad Name” Sounds Like Bonnie Tyler (+3 More)

What do these 80s rockers have in common besides totally 80s hair?

After posting the insane similarities between Bonnie Tyler’s “If You Were a Woman and I Was a Man” and Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” (both from 1986!) a few folks added some others to the mix. Check these out with Swedish singer Ankie Bagger’s ” Where Were You Last Night” (1989) as well as Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” (1987). Important to note is Bad Name and I Was a Man were actually both written by hit making machine Desmond Child.

The Carlisle song is definitely not as similar but here it is anyway:

Did Daft Punk Steal “Get Lucky”? (Daft Punk vs. Milks)

As much as I love the French electronic duo Daft Punk and their great funky single “Get Lucky” (May 2013) I have to call into question the strong similarities of a track called “Get Out” (Posted April 2011 on Soundcloud) by an unknown French trio by the name of Milks. This gem was just brought to my attention by Eleanor. I see there are a few videos on YouTube pointing this out but I’m surprised this hasn’t become a bigger deal on the internet. “Get Lucky” is also co-written by Pharrell Williams who has made a few appearances on this site (links below).

UPDATE 9/22/2014:
Eleanor suggested the following and it’s pretty damn interesting. Check out this snippet of prodigal guitar player Zack Kim performing an original guitar track called “Robot Dance”. Even the name is somewhat coincidental. This is from a fan channel on YouTube so I can’t really verify much other than that it was uploaded on December 22, 2011. Full video is below.

5 Seconds of Summer vs. Plain White T’s vs. Derek and the Dominos

Eleanor just submitted 5 Seconds of Summer and this Plain White T’s track which followed a note by Mark that pointed out “Thorn Tree in the Garden” by Derek and the Dominos (which featured Eric Clapton and the original “Layla” recording). I think the Dominos track is a bit of a stretch so I edited two phrases in the verse together to emphasize the melody. It seems that if you’re writing a sad acoustic ballad this is a good go-to melody.
