Pat Finnerty is my new Hero

Pat FinnertyHow am I only just finding about this guy now???!!  Pat! Where have you been all my life?! My friend Ilan sent me one of Pat Finnerty‘s “What Makes This Song Stink” videos of The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dani California” (see below) and it’s basically a 40 minute version of a ThatSongSoundsLike post and I love it.  You can also find Pat Finnerty on Instagram where he famously (now I know about this, duh) got Dave Grohl to join him on IG Live. He’s been posting these Song Stinks videos as a series and I will be sure to post more of these here.

Dua Lipa Getting Sued TWICE for “Levitating”

Well this is interesting. According to TMZ and Complex Dua Lipa is actually getting sued by two different artists for her hit “Levitating”(2020). The funny thing is when I first heard the track all I thought of was The Bee Gees’ “Stayin Alive” (1977)

Listen to Artikal Sound System – “Live Your Life” (2017) on TMZ

And finally:

Bee Gees – Stayin’ Alive (1977)

In particular the chorus:

Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive

YouTuber Adam Neely does a great music theory breakdown of the “Live Your Life” vs. “Levitating”

Sam Smith Sued For “Dancing With A Stranger”

According to Rolling Stone Sam Smith is being sued for his massive 2019 hit “Dancing with a Stranger”. It seems that a group of songwriters lead by Jordan Vincent published a very similar sounding song in 2015 which also bears a very similar name – “Dancing With a Stranger”.

Here is a side-by-side comparison that seems to have originated from the lawsuit:
