Rod Stewart vs. Clarence “Frogman” Henry

Rod Stewart vs. Clarence “Frogman” Henry

I overhead a very familiar melody the other day, pulled out Shazam on my iPhone and discovered it was a song called  “Ain’t Got No Home” by Clarence “Frogman” Henry.  Then I realized that this is something Rod Stewart incorporated in his version of “Some Guys Have All the Luck” (originally released by The Persuaders in 1973 sans this refrain). So, does Henry deserve a writing credit??

The Doors vs. Muse

the-doors-vs-muse

Kirb and Hunter both sent me this so I had to check it out. Muse put out a new single called “Psycho” and the main guitar riff sounds a lot like “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors. I’m sure you can probably trace the origins of this bluesy riff back a few more decades.

Have a listen!

Sam Smith Settles Copyright With Tom Petty

Wow. This actually happened! Tom Petty and ELO’s Jeff Lynne have been added to Sam Smith’s hit “Stay With Me”. Coincidence or not, the internet has been talking about this one for a while. Here’s a snippet from RollingStone.com

Over the weekend, The Sun reported that Sam Smith had quietly and amicably settled a copyright dispute with Tom Petty over the likeness between Smith’s three-time Grammy-nominated “Stay With Me” and Petty’s Full Moon Fever hit “I Won’t Back Down,” co-written with ELO’s Jeff Lynne. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Smith’s reps have confirmed that “Stay With Me” is now co-credited to Petty and Lynne, adding that while there are undeniable “similarities” between the two singles, it was a “complete coincidence.” – RollingStone.com
