6 Songs That Sound Like Michael Jackson Songs

He’s the King of Pop so of course he’s gonna appear on this site at least twice, maybe three or four times. There are some good ones here. Enjoy!

Back in 2009 a previously unreleased MJ song called “A Place With No Name” surfaced.  According to one reader, “The album booklet for Xscape states that ‘A Place With No Name’ was recorded during an early Invincible session in 1998.”. According to TMZ, “[They were] told several years ago [that] America’s manager gave his group’s permission for Jackson to record the song, ‘A Place with No Name’ — despite the similarity.” I mean, even the song titles are similar. One day I was in a French restaurant and heard a beat and bass line that really sounded like “Billie Jean”.  Even the synth string part was similar. It was in French and sounded disco-era. I pulled out Shazam on my iPhone and bingo –  “Elle danse Marie” by François Valéry.

3.

Have a listen to The Jackson 5’s 1978 “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)” then have a listen to the intro to Huey Lewis & The News – “I Want a New Drug” (1984). There’s also this whole Huey Lewis vs. Ghostbusters thing you can look at after this.

Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran vs. Elvis Presley

Justin Bieber vs. Elvis Presley

From the first time I heard Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran’s “Love Yourself” I couldn’t get the association of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” out of my head. Upon further investigation it turns out the melody in “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is actually based on a French love song called Plaisir d’amour on wikipedia (translated “The pleasure of love”) from 1784.

I have doubled the speed of the Presley track to more closely match the progression:

Elvis Presley - "Can't Help Falling in Love (sped up x2)" (1961)

Here’s the original:

And finally, the old French song:

Jean Paul Egide Martini (performed by Nana Mouskouri) - "Plaisir d'amour" (1784)

Elvis Presley vs. Deniece Williams

Elvis
This past week as I fired up my fake fireplace on Netflix I threw on some Elvis holiday classics. “The Next Step is Love” (1970) came on and all I could think of is Deniece Williams’ 1984 hit “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”. Check it out!
