Did Katy Perry “Wide Awake” lift from Lenny Kravitz “Fly Away”?

Katy Perry vs Lenny Kravitz

Here’s Katy Perry‘s new single “Wide Awake” (2012) with Lenny Kravitz‘s “Fly Away” (1998) . I suppose it’s more of the rhythmic similarity in the vocal parts. Play them at the same time. It’s kind of weird.

The Supremes vs. The Coral

English band The Coral released their popular track “Dreaming of You” in 2002. But some would say it closely resembles The Supremes “My World Is Empty Without You,” recorded back in 1965. Check out the clips below. Gloomy melodies, angsty lyrics, and everything you need for a great breakup song. They even have similar imagery:

“Inside this cold and empty house I dwell… My world is empty without you, babe.” (The Supremes)

“Up in my lonely room, when I’m dreaming of you… Oh what can I do? I still need you.” (The Coral)

MC Hammer “U Can’t Touch This” Samples Rick James “Super Freak”

STOP! Hammer Time! Normally I don’t include sampled music on the site but according to Wikipedia Rick James was not originally credited:

Rick James sued Hammer for infringement of copyright, as the song basically consists of the prominent opening riff of “Super Freak”, which is constantly repeated throughout. The suit was settled out of court when Hammer agreed to credit James as co-composer, effectively cutting James in on the millions of dollars the record was earning. James was accordingly credited as a co-author.
