22 Songs That Sound Like Green Day

For more than 30 years Green Day has been churning out three chord pop-punk gems that make you feel like you’re fifteen years old again (and if you’re 15 and reading this you’ll understand one day). They do it really well. Sometimes TOO well. There’s a good reason why some of those catchy riffs cut right into your brain – you’ve heard them before.

I’m not here to accuse Green Day of intentionally stealing musical ideas but it just so happens that Green Day comes up quite a lot when looking at these comparisons. This might be the biggest compilation on this site to date! There are even some cases where the scenario is reversed. Let’s have a listen!

One Eyed Bastard (2024)

I also couldn’t help hear something else in the Green Day song. The Offspring “Self Esteem” maybe? I dunno, there’s probably a hundred pop punk songs that this part could be compared to. Have a listen!

Oh Love (2012)

21 Guns (2009)

What about the guitar solo? I found something interesting 🙂

The Doors vs. The Kinks

I’m surprised this one hasn’t been submitted a million times. Here we have The Kinks 1964 single “All Day and All of the Night” with The Doors 1968 track “Hello, I Love You”. I’ve also included The Kinks’ 1981 song “Destroyer” which is borrowed from their own song.

In the liner notes to The Doors Box set, Robby Krieger has denied the allegations that the song’s musical structure was stolen from Ray Davies, where a riff similar to it is featured in the Kinks “All Day and All of the Night”. Instead, he said the song’s vibe was taken from Cream’s song “Sunshine of Your Love”.
– The Doors’ wikipedia page for “Hello, I Love You”

I’m not really sure how “Sunshine of Your Love” is related but here are the other tracks:

The Kinks - "All Day and All of the Night" (1964)

The Doors - "Hello, I Love You" (1968)

The Kinks - "Destroyer" (1981)

Green Day “Warning” sounds like The Kinks “Picture Book”

Has Green Day been sued for this? Check out Green Day‘s  2000 hit single “Warning” and The Kinks‘  1968 classic “Picture Book”.
