10 One Direction Songs that Sound Like Other Songs

This is a fairly long list of One Direction (1D) songs that sound like other songs. They seem to do this a lot. Well, the songwriters behind the curtain do. The most interesting thing about this is that most of these One Direction songs came out 1 year after the song they sound like. That doesn’t seem coincidental here. This is a pattern.

 

“Live While We’re Young” sounds like The Clash “Should I Stay or Should I Go”

If you look really closely at the cover of The Clash‘s Combat Rock (1982) you will see the boy band One Direction in the background. This explains it all.

Free Energy vs. Bachman-Turner Overdrive vs. The Who

This is a brand new track from Free Energy called “Electric Fever”. I am kind of speechless with this one.  I don’t think they have given credit to Bachman-Turner Overdrive but I can only assume they will have no choice in the future. Free Energy doesn’t even bother to drop out the cowbell! This power riff might also conjure up The Who‘s 1972 “Baba O’Riley” (commonly known as “Teenage Wasteland”). PLUS the intro to “Electric Fever” has a similar digital-hickup-glitch kind of thing going on. Here they are for your enjoyment.

Another one for Boston based Boys Like Girls. Last post was for the chorus similarity to the Killers track “Somebody Told Me”.

Todd points out the lead guitar in the “Love Drunk” intro and the lead guitar melody in the 2006 Bon Jovi track “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”. I’m also surprised that nobody has picked up on the similarity to The Who’s Baba O’Riley (aka Teenage Wasteland). Not only are the chord progressions the same, “Love Drunk” also has some sort of arpeggiation in the background much like Baba.
