Ne-Yo vs. Flashdance (“Maniac”)

Maybe a bit of a stretch but I heard Ne-Yo‘s “Closer” the other day and immediately thought of  “Maniac” from the 1983 classic movie Flashdance.

And the last line of the chorus of dangerous sounds kind of like that of Thorn in My Side by Bon Jovi.

James Blunt’s Superstar (2010) is closer (I don’t mean it’s the same song as Ne-Yo’s). Speaking of James Blunt, No Tears (2010) sounds like a combination of O Night Divine and Katie Q by Thirsty Merc (2005), plus the riff sounds like that of SOS by ABBA.

really not that far off… some differences but a very nice find. always thought closer was like something just never could place it.

I just heard this Ne-Yo song on the radio today and thought, “Maybe this would be great for the website”. I just googled it and arrived here. I posted this 9 years ago 🙂

Yes you’re spot on! I came to this conclusion a while back. But just Google today to see if anyone else had mentioned it and found you, as I was just listening to maniac. When I first heard closer, I thought why do I find this song so familiar. It’s that repetitive hip grind action sound, that is used in closer. But in closer you’re compelled to push your hands out repetitively.
