From the first time I heard Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran’s “Love Yourself” I couldn’t get the association of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” out of my head. Upon further investigation it turns out the melody in “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is actually based on a French love song called Plaisir d’amour on wikipedia (translated “The pleasure of love”) from 1784.
Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran - "Love Yourself" (2015)
I have doubled the speed of the Presley track to more closely match the progression:
Elvis Presley - "Can't Help Falling in Love (sped up x2)" (1961)
Here’s the original:
Elvis Presley - "Can't Help Falling in Love (original)" (1961)
And finally, the old French song:
Jean Paul Egide Martini (performed by Nana Mouskouri) - "Plaisir d'amour" (1784)

The most significant cultural icon of the 20th century if you did’nt already know…. to even put his picture next to The King of Rock and Roll is a travesty..the kid is not fit to lick his boots.. anyone trying to compare anything of his to Elvis is definitely off their head and….. they probably are.
Maybe it’s not my place to say, but I’m sure all the post is trying to say is that Justin Bieber did a crappy rip-off of a classic song.
But then again, they aren’t all that similar and the melody of Love Yourself is just as close to that of Someday, Someday by Thirsty Merc or Earth Angel by The Penguins.
I don’t see it.
Listen to the Sheeran guitar part and then listen to the vocal in the Elvis song.
