Jessica Simpson vs. Mariah Carey vs. Vince Vance & The Valiants vs. Bobby Vinton

Thanks to Jamie for sending this.

‘Tis the season for sharing, being merry and re-recording the same holiday songs – again. Jessica Simpson has tapped right into the mega success of Mariah Carey and Vince Vance & The Valiants‘ songs of the same name “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Why didn’t she just go all the way and give it the same title? Not only does Simpson’s track “My Only Wish” from her new holiday album have a strong musical resemblance to Carey’s and The Valiant’s but the lyrics still tell the same old story.

Verse

Mariah Carey - "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (1994)

Jessica Simpson - "My Only Wish" (2010)

Chorus

Mariah Carey - "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (1994)

Jessica Simpson - "My Only Wish" (2010)

But wait, there’s more! Have a listen to Bobby Vinton‘s 1964 classic “My Heart Belongs Only To You” (1964) along side Vince Vance & the Valiants.

The Jessica Simpson Mariah Carey connection is so similar. I have lost all respect for Jessica Simpson. Actually… i had none anyway!

Actually, the A section melody from Vince Vance & The Valiants “All I Want for Christmas is You” (1989) is much closer to the A section melody from “You Belong to Me” (1952). It’s so close that I’m surprised there was no law suit.
