UPDATE: R.E.M. vs. Cheap Trick vs. Mega Man vs. Journey

This is an update to R.E.M. vs. Cheap Trick

Mike says

The Elec Man theme from the video game Mega Man sounds freakishly similar to both of these. You should check it out.

Brilliant find Mike! Mega Man! And in my travels I also discovered a bit of talk about Journey‘s 1983 power ballad “Faithfully”. Here is all of them:

Mega Man - "Elec Man Theme" (1987)

Journey - "Faithfully" (1983)

R.E.M. - "All the Right Friends" (1983)

Cheap Trick - "Way of the World" (1979)

i loved this websiteee! heyy, don’t you think Larger Than Life by Backstreet Boys is sooooo similar to It’s My Life by Bon Jovi?? Me and my bff spent all the day finding that out hahaha

This four-note sequence is massively recycled. Other occurances include “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon, “Outlaw Pete” by Bruce Springsteen, “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” by U2, and countless others.

This is kind of embarrassing, countless others and I suggest one with a slightly different pattern. I’ll change it to the guitar part of Make Me Pure by Robbie Williams (2005), etc.

When i heard the song “forever young” last year i could not get journey’s “forever yours” out of my head.

Also, I found this site while trying to find an old song that another new song REALLY reminded me of. The new song is Gavin Degraw’s “Not over you”

the specific parts is when he starts “If you asked me how i’m doing, i would say i’m doing just fine….I’m not over you” It’s like deja vu whenever i ear it on the radio.

I always thought that Journey’s Faithfully and Prince’s Purple Rain sounded alike especially the guitar solo and chord progression

The intro of Journey’s song sounds a lot like ABBA’s intro of “The winner takes it all”, doesn’t it?

Yes! For me “The Winner Takes It All” is the source of this melody, everything else I think is derivative of it (accidentally or not). The Cheap Trick one came earlier, but it doesn’t sound as close to me. Who knows though.

I also think Vanessa Carlton’s “San Francisco” sounds a whole lot like “Winner Takes It All”, along with the Journey and Mega Man stuff.
