I haven’t heard of Suit of Lights before but maybe MCR has? Have a listen to the intros of Suit of Lights’ “Goodbye Silk City” released 2 years before MCR’s “Welcome to the Black Parade”. It’s not just the melody but also the marching band instrumentation that makes this one interesting. Have a listen!

Both songs make use of Pachelbel’s Canon in D for their progression, so any similarities are likely to come about from the similar classical piece they use as their basis!
The intro and ending progression, tempo, and marching band treatment are identical. And they are not Pachelbel’s Canon. Additionally, the Suit of Lights album was also a concept album about death.
Yes, Pachelbel’s Canon is pretty much shareware for any passing musician these days. Ralph McTell… Coven… Coolio… Vitamin C… El Bosco… even Demis Roussos (“Rain and Tears”) and Bonnie Tyler (“Call me”)… roll up, one and all, and have a borrow!

a small similarity starts around 1:20 but it really starts sounding alike at around 1:45
The resemblance that I first [*noticed/ *imagined] (strike out one) when hearing “Black Parade” was to Billy Joel’s “Scenes in an Italian Restaurant.” The opening is similar to Billy’s bridge section, just before “Brenda and Eddy were popular steadies…”,” and then the way it breaks out after “Things are okay for me these days…”
